I might owe him my first born...

This guy is the roommate or friend that I wish everyone could be so lucky to have. By the end of my time in France, I may just owe this guy my first-born child.

Séb is always there to lend a hand. :D
Though I was feeling better Friday and Saturday, yesterday I took a turn for the worse. The cramp that I couldn't quite figure out all week - the one that I did my best to ignore - came back with a vengeance. By 4pm, I was literally in tears because of the pain. I called Rachel, my dad's girlfriend and a nurse; through my sobbing explained to her what was going on. She and my dad assured me that it was something I needed medical attention for. Then I called my mom. Yes, I realized I was probably worrying my whole family back home but some things will never change. If I'm sick or hurt, I need my parents.

Anyways, I woke Séb out of his nap and crawled onto his bed to tearfully ask for help. He sprang to the occasion to help me. He called some emergency number, they made a doctor's appointment for me, and we jumped into his car. Séb helped me out by describing my issue, as I could hardly think in either language. The (gorgeous) doctor poked and prodded me, asked some questions, and then sent me to the hospital to be tested for appendicitis. Once in the emergency room, I was separated from Séb and on my own to explain and answer questions. I was proud of myself for being able to say what I needed and understanding what all my doctors and nurses said. One nurse complimented my French, which put me at ease. I had an echo done but they couldn't find my appendix. (I learned later last night that my family has an issue with "floating appendixes", which aren't found where they're supposed to be). Then I had a CT scan done... After being left on the gurney in a few random hallways of la salle d'urgence, I was finally given another room to lie in. Séb and I waited for quite some time before they came back with test results.

Thankfully it wasn't appendicitis and it wasn't kidney stones, which the doctor had also thought. I have a urinary infection and some other very minor issue going on. Basically, I've got four prescriptions to take over the next several days and need to schedule a second urinary test at the lab, but I'm already feeling back to working order. I survived a potential nightmare and had a great friend by my side to see me through it. I'm sure he would have preferred to do something else on a Sunday night but I don't know what I would have done without him (what if he had been at work?!). Séb, you are amazing. Thanks for just being you.

  6. I'm so sorry you weren't feeling well! I am the same way - something goes wrong and I NEED my parents. I had one of those nasty urinary things in the third week after we moved here, and it was so painful and so scary to talk to the doctors (bc I don't speak french), and because I am an occupational therapist so I knew what I wanted them to know about the condition medically, but was scared of how my husband was translating it because some medical terms don't translate. Scary scary thing but I'm glad they figured it out for you and that you're on the mend!
